Meet John "Jax" Parrish
John "Jax" Parrish is a highly respected fitness professional, Master Trainer, and coach with more than 25 years of experience helping individuals transform their bodies, improve their health, and reach their peak performance. He holds multiple industry-recognized certifications, including NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), HIIT Master Trainer, Schwinn Indoor Cycling Coach, and NCPPT Certified Group Fitness Instructor.
Jax's passion for fitness began in 1988 while serving in the United States Army. After consistently achieving top scores on military physical fitness tests, he was selected by his Battalion Commander to lead remedial physical training programs for Non-Commissioned Officers and Officers who needed to meet military fitness standards. It was there that he discovered his talent for motivating others and designing effective fitness programs that delivered measurable results.
Long before high-intensity interval training (HIIT) became a mainstream training method, Jax was developing programs that combined bodyweight training, interval conditioning, time-under-tension techniques, mobility work, balance training, and functional movement. Drawing from military doctrine, fitness literature, and years of practical experience, he created systems that improved strength, endurance, weight loss, and overall physical performance.
These early experiences shaped the philosophy that continues to guide his coaching today: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to fitness. Every individual possesses unique characteristics—including body structure, biomechanics, age, lifestyle, mobility, and nutritional preferences—that must be considered when creating a successful fitness strategy.
Following his military service, Jax earned his personal training certification and went on to work with some of Chicagoland's most recognized fitness facilities, including Powerhouse Gym, Bally Total Fitness, Brad's Gym, Lakeshore Athletic Club, XSport Fitness, LA Fitness, and Crunch Fitness.
Over the course of his career, Jax has successfully trained clients ranging in age from 12 to 94 years old. His experience includes working with individuals seeking weight loss, muscle development, athletic performance enhancement, and lifestyle transformation, as well as those managing conditions such as Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, Hashimoto's disease, spinal cord injuries, joint replacements, dementia, and other health challenges.
At Beyond Human Fitness, Jax believes that fitness is a partnership. Every client relationship begins with a personal consultation to establish goals, identify strengths and obstacles, and develop a customized plan built around the client's lifestyle and long-term success.
His mission is simple: help people become stronger, healthier, more confident, and capable than they ever thought possible.
"One thing I've learned about people is that nothing is out of reach when the desire and commitment are there."
